It's Not About PPE

Governor Tate Reeves may want Mississippi to be the safest place for the "unborn", but he certainly doesn't seem to care if it is safe for the rest of us.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, antis outside the Jackson Women's Health Organization have become even more aggressive, disregarding social distancing, attempting to hand patients pamphlets, but yelling about coronavirus. They have been calling the governor and the health department trying to have the clinic shut down.

Enlisting the American Family Association (a Southern Poverty Law Center designated hate group), antis continued to petition the governor. On April 8th, Gov. Reeves sat for an interview with Donald Wildmon on American Family Radio "about the abortion clinic in Jackson" and enacting an Executive Order, basically "cutting and pasting" the order used to stop abortions in Texas for use in Mississippi - and there was no mention of any need to conserve personal protective equipment (PPE), only to shut down the clinic and stop abortions in Mississippi.

So on April 9th, Gov. Reeves issued his Executive Order 1470, intended to ban all "elective procedures" from issuance until April 27, in order to conserve PPE. And when asked, Gov. Reeves stated he believes abortion falls under the "elective" category.

It's not about PPE. Clearly.

But Gov. Reeves isn't the patient, nor is he a physician, so he is not in a position to make that determination. But what he is in a position to do is make it more dangerous for the patient and the provider to be in Mississippi.

Because when Gov. Reeves panders to the antis by going on American Family Radio and stating his intentions, the antis outside the clinic become even more outraged and aggressive. Antis are already screaming about "baby murder" and "blood money" at patients, providers, escorts as they are harassing patients and companions mercilessly - with bullhorns, PA speakers. And now with the pandemic, it is worse; the tension is higher. One day, some unhinged person will show up, just like Robert Dear, Jr. did in Colorado in 2015, to "save the babies" or "shut it down" but all the antis will step away and say "we had nothing to do with that", although they incited the violence with their constant rhetoric of "baby killers" and "murder".

The articles below detail what we have seen happen here in Mississippi as of late. We appreciate Dr. Kimberly Kelly, a sociologist and gender studies instructor at Mississippi State University, for her editorial that clearly states what is the REAL fallout is when people's rights to healthcare are taken away. "Disingenuous" is a kind way to describe what the governor is doing here.

Disingenuous...kind of like the antis in the pics above. Antis want to talk about the clinic using PPE, yet they have N95 masks on that hospitals can't even find as they come to yell at everyone at the clinic. Maybe the governor should ask these antis where they get their PPE, see if they can help him out.

It's not about PPE. It's about abortion. Clearly.
